Benjamin Thiébault began his musical studies at the Regional Conservatories of Montpellier and Paris. He joined the Jazz and Improvised Music Department at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, under the direction of Riccardo Del Fra. He took part in an exchange program with the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he obtained his Master’s degree in Music Performance. Along with his studies, Benjamin benefited from the teaching of Serge Lazarevitch, Emil Spanyi, Hervé Sellin and Bert van den Brink. During this period, he also enjoyed prestigious masterclasses, with artists in the likes of Aaron Parks, Ethan Iverson, Bojan Z, Craig Taborn …
Benjamin Thiébault performed on the stage of many jazz clubs, such as the “Duc des Lombards” in Paris, the “Bimhuis” in Amsterdam, the “Hot Clube de Portugal” in Lisbon, and took part in several competitions, tours and international recordings. He played with Franck Nicolas, Guadeloupean trumpeter (opening for Raphael Gualazzi at the Agglo au Rythme du Jazz festival, opening for Earth, Wind & Fire at the Nuits du Jazz in Vauvert, Orléans’Jazz, Première rencontre autour du Piano festival), and Deva Mahal, American neo-soul singer (Jazzclub Unterfahrt, Jazz Dock, Les Nuits de l’Alligator Festival, You & The Night & The Music, Deli Express, Plus Près de Toi, Quotidien shows).
In 2016, he recorded the album “Roadbook” by Portuguese bassist and composer Marco Martins. The group performed in Seville, and in the southern region of Portugal, in the Algarve (Cine-Teatro Louletano, Festival Internacional de Jazz de Loulé, Cantaloupe Café).
A private teacher since 2011, he led an introduction to improvisation course in Saint-Jean-de-Védas with the Arteshow association. He carried out replacements in the Paris region (Cultural Center of Courbevoie, School of Music of Chelles, School of Artistic Music) and taught in the private schools Music For Life in Amsterdam, and l’Anacrouse in Montpellier.
In October 2020, he took over from David Haudrechy as the professor and coordinator of the jazz department at the Departmental Conservatory of Montauban, assisted by Finnish guitarist, composer and music producer Juhani Sinkkonen. He held this post until September 2021.
Furthermore, he released his first trio album, “Emergence”, released on October 30, 2020 on the label Parallel Records. The album has been remarked (HIT Couleurs Jazz, Télérama, Jazz Magazine) and disc of the week on radio Fip in December 2020.
Benjamin Thiébault is currently setting up several artistic projects and collaborations. He notably performed with his trio on June 19, 2021 at the Sunset Jazz Club, for the release of his album “Emergence”.
